What Do You Have to Show for it All?

If you’re reading this, you have inevitably had to overcome something in your life. You may be in a state of overcoming or even feeling overcome right now. Every person that walks the earth has had to overcome. And if we know this to be true, the greater question becomes: What will you have to show for it all?
In any great fight, there can only be two outcomes, victory or defeat. If you are still breathing, you have been victorious.

On the heels of the death of the great Muhammad Ali, I am reminded of the immense purpose and value that is left behind from a life. Not only did he demonstrate and ability to fight in the physical sense but he also taught us how to be victors in our mental capacities and actions towards the world.
Bearing infamous quotes like:

“Don’t count the days. Make the days count”,
“I am the greatest. I said that before I even knew I was”, and my favorite: ” If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough. ”

There are traces of his greatness in so many facets of life. In his era, he changed the way that an entire community of people felt about themselves encouraging self love, pride and the spirit to fight for equality. He championed causes and even entertained us while doing so.

Upon hearing the news of Ali’s death, I was saddened as it felt like the end of an era but as I began to scroll through social media, I was immediately reminded of the tremendous impact that he had. I’d say his work here on earth was well done.
In retrospect, he had so much to show for his life. Not one of his breaths taken was in vain. And none of what I speak of had to do with material gain. That’s what I call legacy.

We must all vow to create one, it is why we exist. We create legacy by helping others and using our gifts and talents to make a difference in our own lives and the lives of those closest to us.

But I have also learned that legacy is not only an impression but tangible pieces of ourselves that we can leave behind. I have resolved that my books are actually instructions to my daughters on how to live their lives and what pitfalls to avoid. I know that one day, they will read them in remembrance of me and be reminded of all that I have tried to instill in them while here on earth.

I define legacy by what we leave behind that infinitely impacts others. What will your legacy be and how will you leave the best pieces of you for the world to appreciate?

What we stand for, how we treat others and how giving we are of the resources that we have define our legacy. What will you have to show for having lived this life? I’m certain that it is something beautiful. Now, the rest of the world deserves to know. One of the best legacies that we can leave is a book. So much of ourselves can be placed there. The world deserves to hear what you have to say and you deserve to speak your truths.
